Mathematics

In this subject, besides having to sit for test and exam, we also had to complete two assignments. The first assignment is Surface Area and Volume of Solid Geometry. In a group of 5 we were required to choose 9 objects found in our daily life (preferably objects related to construction). The objects must cover the given categories. We are then required to calculate total surface area and volume of the objects. We must also adopt suitable ratio, draw the all surface areas on an A3 size paper for each object. The second assignment is Statistics. This assignment required us to work in a group of 5 members. We needed to discuss and propose a specific statistical study (preferably involves continuous data).  We had to design a surveying form and complete minimum 100 survey forms. We then had to organize and present the data by using appropriate diagrams.

The learning outcomes for assignment 1 are to analyse and solve problems that involves area and volume of 3D objects. We had to understand and apply fundamental mathematical principles such as area and volume. The objectives are to be able to familiarize with the geometry of plane and 3D shapes and also understand mathematical concepts and their application. By completing the first assignment on Surface Area and Volume of Solid Geometry, I understand the appropriate method to calculate the area and volume of 3D objects even better. My observational skills as well as my measurement skills during the process of measuring the objects was also enhanced. I was also exposed to the proper way of analyzing and documenting data.

As for assignment 2, the learning outcomes are to analyse and solve problems that involves various mathematical principles. We needed to collect, organize, present and draw conclusion for simple statistical data. Besides that, we needed to understand and apply fundamental mathematical principles for statistics. The objectives for this assignment are to enable the students to collect and organize statistical data. It is also preparing students to apply the knowledge gained to analyse statistical data and draw conclusion from the data. Through the second assignment on Statistics, I could understand how to solve problems using various mathematical principles. We were also given the chance to create our own questionnaires and distributed to the students to conduct our survey. We then had to organize and present it by using charts. We manage to apply the fundamental mathematical principles to get the mean, median and mode for our statistics data.

Overall, Mathematics had given me the chance to enhance my calculation skills and be able to apply all the methods and techniques to solve the problems given. This would give me a greater advantage in my future studies.
