We were required to produce 8 A5 size sketches and apply different types of sketching and rendering techniques. We were to sketch all of these listed below using free hand :
A. Body Parts/Figure/Nature
B. Object Projection
C. Geometric Projection
D. Your City- Projection (coloured or rendered)
E. One Point Perspective of an area or areas in Taylor's University
F. Two Points Perspective of an area or areas in Taylor's University
G. Details in Taylor's University
H. Tracing a picture of a building (rendering)
The following are the sketches completed :
For this project, the learning outcomes were to be able to recognize our potential for creativity, self-expression and visual awareness as well as to identify the fundamental principle, elements and techniques in sketching, drawing, design process and presentation skills. The objectives of this project were to identify a personal and expressive response to visual simulation and to apply basic principles and elements of design and drawing as a language to visualize and to communicate ideas.
As I was completing this project, I was able to improve my sketching and rendering skills as well as learn new techniques that would help me further enhance my drawings in the future. By doing this assignment, I manage to transfer clearly the details I see on to paper. Sketching my own city also allowed me to play around with my creative side as I got to visualize ideas and sketch it out. Besides that, I also got to improve my coloring techniques since we had to apply it on one of the sketches. The learning outcomes and objectives for this project were achieved.
PROJECT 2 : ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS & DIAGRAMS
This project was divided into two parts : Project 2A and Project 2B. For Project 2A, we were required to produce orthographic drawings, apply drawing conventions and representations of a space that was given. The site that we had gotten was Student Life Centre. The project required us to measure the site and produce an introductory page, a layout plan, a detailed plan, three or four elevations, one point or two point perspective of the site, a sketched axonometric drawing of the site and a page of a detailed sketch applying the glass box theory. Project 2B required us to produce bubble diagrams and a diagrammatic analysis of the site. All these requirements were to be produced on 10 to 15 pieces of A3 paper.
Here are the pictures of the drawings :

In this project, the learning outcomes were to enable us to identify the fundamental principles, elements and drawing as a language to visualize and to communicate ideas. Besides that, we were required to achieve observation skills and able to report, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communications effectively. We were also exposed to a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas, which leads to a finished quality product. The drawings were needed to be applied as a means of communication in order to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.
Completing this project helped improve my observation skills, as it required me to carry out research and record the data. By applying the basic elements and principles of design as well as use drawings as a language, I managed to visualize and communicate my ideas well. I was also able to learn and understand the proper way of obtaining measurements. Conducting this project also enabled me to understand the given site a little better.
PROJECT 3 : INTRODUCTION TO SITE ANALYSIS
In this project, we were required to produce a site analysis with the previous site given from Project 2, on a maximum of 15 pieces of A3 size papers. We were to complete this task as a group. Besides that, we were required to individually prepare a case study and propose an idea of what wall installation was suitable for the final project on a maximum of 2 A3 papers. The site analysis needed to include the following :
a. Location
b. Site Context
c. Size and Zoning
d. Natural and Man Made Physical Features
e. Circulation
f. Utilities
g. Sensory Perception
h. Human, Culture and Activities
i. Climate
j. SWOT Analysis

Reflection
For this project,we were needed to demonstrate observation skills and be able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communication effectively. We were required to explore a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas leading to a finished quality product. The objectives of this project were to enable us to demonstrate our observation and visualization skills in a variety of ways and emphasize on the process of drawing. It also helps to shape our confidence in using drawing as a means of communication to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.
By completing this project, I was given the opportunity to work with my group and improve my communication skills as we exchanged ideas. This project also increased my presentation skills as we had to present it to other students and lecturers. I also managed to improve the compilation of my observations and data. I understood the circulation and activities of the site even deeper. By conducting the case study, I managed to provide an idea for the site while solving the problems surrounding it. This helped me a lot, as I will be needing it for the final project.
PROJECT 4 : FEATURE WALL INSTALLATION DESIGN PROPOSAL
Our final project required us to undergo a design process which would aid us in presenting our idea for the wall installation. The project was divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. For Part A, we were required to document our design ideas and the process of obtaining our design. As for part B, we were required to produce a presentation board on 2 A2 media of our choice containing the design development, site analysis, propose plan and elevations, three sketched perspectives, one photo-montage and a final model.
The following are photos for Part A :

Reflection
For this final project, the learning outcomes were to demonstrate observational skills and able to record, organize, interpret and describe a variety of issues through visual communication effectively. We also needed to manipulate a variety of media and techniques to visualize ideas leading to a finished product. The objectives of this project were to enable us to demonstrate our observation and visualization skills in a variety of ways and emphasize on the process of drawing. It also helps to shape our confidence in using drawing as a means of communication to express two dimensional and three dimensional ideas.
Through this project, I had the chance to explore variety of medias to present my work on such as butter paper and brown paper. I managed to develop better presentation skills and increase my creativity as I was completing this project. I was also able to enhance my technical drawing skills through the guide of my lecturers. I also understood my design better while I was preparing the model. This project also thought me on how to create an informational and attractive presentation board. At the end, all the learning outcomes and objectives set were achieved.
1.There should be one page of introduction of the course and profile of your self.
ReplyDelete2. Good and original reflections.. but there's room for improvement.
3. Good annotations and information under the images.
4. Missing Information about the Journal exercise and compilation plus the Hard copy portfolio.
5. Lack information about your final project such as why you design it that way.. and why this and that about your layout etc.
